Matthias Kopp (54) was born in Mannheim and grew up and went to school in Weingarten and Karlsruhe. He completed his studies and training as a pediatrician at the Albrecht Ludwig University of Freiburg and at the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital of Freiburg. After a research stay in Vienna, he completed his habilitation in 2004. In 2008, Matthias Kopp received a professorship in pediatric pulmonology in Gießen and Lübeck. In 2009 he moved to Lübeck and set up the section for pediatric pulmonology and allergology there. In addition to health care, Matthias Mr. Kopp has been very involved in university teaching and research for years.

At the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) he is actively involved in several projects focusing on bronchial asthma and cystic fibrosis. The aim of his work is to identify biomarkers that allow statements to be made about the course of the disease and the response to therapy in various forms of bronchial asthma. Matthias Kopp is currently President of the Trinational Society for Pediatric Pulmonology (GPP eV).
